Step back in time as you enter the museum though the "Eocene Grove", a garden consisting of varieties of plants known to have flourished in Australia some 38-55 million years ago.
    11. Francis Burt Law Museum The Old Court House is Perth’s oldest remaining public building and was the most prominent building in the early days of the Swan River Colony. From 1965 -1987 it served as the Law Society offices. In 1987 the building was refurbished and opened to the public and named the Francis Burt Law Education Centre and Museum, a community education centre for legal history and one of the few law museums worldwide.
    12. Glass Manifesto Glass Manifesto offers vistors to their Studio/Gallery a first hand experience in the beauty and variety of handmade handblown glass. Both Peter and Anne are experienced glassblowers and are on hand to discuss the various methods they use in their exquisite work of glass blowing.   • Historical Sites and Heritage Locations (19)
    1. Alkimos Wreck See the haunted Alkimos Wreck from the coastline near Yanchep, just north of Perth.
    2. All Saints Church - Henley Brook Discover the charm and history of All Saints Church in Henley Brook, which is the oldest church in Western Australia. Taking three years to build by one of the early pioneers of the area, Richard Edwards, the church has been hosting services since 1841.
    3. Barkers and Gull Store The existing small shop and warehouse are all that remain of a larger group of six buildings which once stood on the site. They were built by Samuel Barker, who acted as agent for shipments, of rural produce brought to Guildford for transport down the river to Fremantle. He also operated a general and liquor store, patronised largely by country visitors returning to the Eastern districts along the York and Toodyay roads.
    4. Barrack Street Jetty Meander along Barrack Street Jetty to visit the towering glass spire of the Swan Bells. Indulge your tastebuds with a range of waterfront restaurants, casual bars and quality cafés. Enjoy the tranquil views across the Swan River while you sit back and soak up the lively atmosphere.
    5. Barracks Archway Learn more about Western Australia’s colonial history on a visit to Barracks Archway in the west end of Perth.
    6. Bathurst Lighthouse Bathurst Lighthouse, on the northern edge of Rottnest Island, was built in 1900 to support Wadjemup Lighthouse following the City of York shipping disaster in 1899, where 11 lives were lost. It is 20 metres high and in conjunction with Wadjemup and the Fremantle Lighthouse, creates a navigational triangle to guide skippers.
    7. Blackboy Hill Commemorative Site The Blackboy Hill commemorative site is a unique piece of military architecture, which should not be missed by those with an interest in Australian military lore.
    8. Buckland Hill Buckland Hill, named by Captain James Stirling after James Buckland who became Dean of Westminster, is the last remaining peak of the seven hills in the region. It is one of the highest points in the Perth metropolitan area.
    9. Carlisle Castle Shipwreck The 70 metre wreck of the Carlisle Castle lays on the Coventry Reef off the Rockingham coast, a one hour drive south of Perth. Local dive operators run tours to the popular dive site which sits in just 7.5 metres of water. Alternatively you could hire a boat to access the site which is 3.2 kilometres west of Penguin Island.
    10. Central Government Buildings The Central Government Buildings comprise the former Treasury and Titles Office Buildings and are bounded by Barrack Street, St Georges Terrace and Cathedral Avenue.
    11. Chapel of St Mary and St George The historic Chapel of St Mary and St George is a captivating sight for visitors to the historic town of Guildford. Its idyllic position on a large expanse of green grass framed by London Plane trees adds to the presence of this grand church. Regarded as one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Australia, visitors will be astounded by the sheer beauty of the church.
    12. Commissariat Store This building was erected by Lieut Ducane R.E. who was responsible for supervising the convict work parties engaged in building and road construction in the Swan, York and Toodyay districts.
    13. Council House Officially opened on March 25 1963, by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To commemorate the opening, her majesty unveiled the plaque at the left of the main steps. The plaque, designed by Perth artist Geoffrey Allen incorporates Swans supporting a crown, in copper, gilt and bronze, and is set on granite from London's old Waterloo Bridge.
    14. Crosslands House - Riverleigh Charles Crossland was a land agent and surveyor, well known in the 1890's for his work laying out the railway line to Midland. In 1897 he built this substantial residence in what was then a favoured location for many wealthy and prominent citizens.
    15. Du Cane's House Constructed 1852. This building was originally part of the Convict Depot and was built by Liuet. DuCane as living and office quarters for himself.
    16. East Guildford Cemetery East Guildford Cemetery is in the churchyard of Doctor Giustiniani's church. It has remained a place of burial long after the church itself has disappeard.
    17. East Perth Cemetery The East Perth Cemetery was first mentioned in 1829 in records of colonial secretary Peter Broun. It was originally much larger than it is today but development has reduced its size. The last burial here was in 1919, but family vaults have been used since then.
    18. European Cemetery The first Europeans took up residence on Rottnest Island shortly after the first settlement of the Swan River Colony was established, in 1829. Rottnest Island was considered to be of interest, as a place with potential for salt harvesting, farming and fishing.
    19. George Street Precinct George Street in East Fremantle is peaceful and pretty, its historic charms date back to the early days. The street is now classified as an historical precinct with the Royal George Hotel now a restored community centre housing an art gallery and several artists' studios all open to the public.

    4. Ellis Brook Valley Reserve Ellis Brook Valley Reserve has over 500 species of wildflowers in a beaturiful hidden valley.

    6. Cockburn Sound Cockburn Sound is a 100 square kilometre marine embayment located south of Perth. It is surrounded by Garden Island on the west, Cape Peron and Rockingham on the south, with the coastal strip on the east.
    7. Cottesloe Beach Perth’s Cottesloe Beach is one of the city's most popular places for swimming, snorkelling and surfing. Here, towering Norfolk pines line a boulevard buzzing with cafes and pubs. Enjoy an early-morning breakfast beside the Indian Ocean, or a refreshing sunset beer at the pub.
    8. Fish Hook Bay Fish Hook Bay, located on the western part of Rottnest Island, is known for its distinct shape, a fish hook. The waters of the bay comprise of an array of blues and the shores are soft, sandy and white.
    9. Floreat Beach Floreat Beach is situated 12 kilometres west from the centre of Perth. It is easily accessible by car. Buses are available to Floreat, but you may have to walk about a kilometre to get to the beach.
    10. Garden Island Just offshore from Rockingham is Garden Island, famous for its beautiful beaches and bays which are ideal for picnics, swimming, fishing, surfing and sailing.
    11. Geordie Bay Geordie Bay located on the northern side of Rottnest Island has one of the largest and most popular sandy beaches on the island. The perfect place to reside while on the island, Geordie Bay is home to several modern holiday units that overlook the stunning open ocean.

    1. Araluen Botanic Park Araluen Botanic Park is a very special place nestled in the deep jarrah forested valley in the Darling Range. Araluen is a tranquil botanic garden of natural and developed beauty, providing four seasons of relaxing activity. Whatever time you visit Araluen, you will find the streams flowing, plenty of grassy areas on which to enjoy a barbecue or picnic and several delightful bush walks to take.
    2. Bold Park With sweeping views over Perth and the Indian Ocean, Bold Park in the suburb of City Beach, is a popular place for bushwalking and picnicking.
    3. Caversham House As you enter Caversham House, you will be greeted by two full sized Gargoyle statues, hand carved out of local Donny Brook Sand Stone. They are named the Guardians, and are the protectors of Caversham House.
    4. Charlies Estate Wines Charlies Estate Wines is located in the historic wine producing area of the Swan Valley region, situated just 25 minutes outside the Perth city centre.
    5. Fred Jacoby Park Fred Jacoby Park is a great spot for picnics, watching wildlife, photography or just relaxing before, or after heading off, on one of the numerous walk trails within the Mundaring National Park. Fully equipped with picnic facilities, free barbecues and a children’s playground, you will enjoy communing with nature in this beautifully landscaped park.

    1. Bells Rapids Located in Brigadoon, this picnic and bush walking spot at Bells Rapids is a prime viewing area to see competitors in the annual Avon Descent White Water Race battle the rapids.
    2. Bibbulmun Track The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world’s great long distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1,000 kilometres from Kalamunda, in the Perth Hills, to the historic town of Albany on the south coast. This Top Trail passes through the heart of the scenic south west of Western Australia.
    3. Bilgoman Well Heritage Trail Located nine kilometres east of Midland along the Great Eastern Highway. The Bilgoman Well Heritage Trail is a 100 metre walking track through bushland to one of Chauncy's wells and the site of an old convict depot.
    4. Boom or Bust Trail, Perth CBD The Boom or Bust trail is a historical walk through Perth city that highlights the "boom" created by gold and the resultant surge of growth, wealth and prosperity in Western Australia. The city population swelled, buildings were erected and it seemed Perth would "bust" as this remote town turned into a buzzing cosmopolitan city.
    5. Cala Munnda Heritage Trail The Cala Munnda Heritage Trail retraces the early settlement of Kalamunda and its development as a multicultural community. It is a 42 kilometre driving circuit, commencing at the Kalamunda History Village and featuring the Lesmurdie town site, timber country and the picturesque Bickley Valley before returning to Kalamunda.
    6. Cape Vlamingh Cape Vlamingh is the western most point and most exposed area of Rottnest Island. There is no solid landmass between this point and Madagascar, 6,436 kilometres away.
    7. Eagle's View Walk, John Forrest National Park Eagle's View Walk Trail is a 15 kilometre moderate loop walk around John Forrest National Park, Western Australia's oldest national park, with impressive views across the Swan Coastal Plain to distant Perth the track passes through varied vegetation types, including heath lands, open wandoo woodlands and mixed jarrah-marri-wandoo forest.
    8. Ghost House Walk Trail, Yanchep National Park The Ghost House Walk Trail takes you on a journey to discover the natural and cultural history of the wilderness areas in Yanchep National Park, an hour north of Perth. The moderate 9.2 kilometre loop Top Trail allows trail users to encounter the sights and sounds of the pristine wetlands and discover the historic remains of the "Ghost House".
    9. Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail The Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail takes you to Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields, rich in gold, history and scenery, revealing the story of a unique engineering feat. Travel on the old Goldfields Road along which fortune seekers rushed in the 1890s. Stop to explore where they stopped to rest and fill their waterbags.

The expedition will celebrate Ferguson’s and Britle’s first crossing of an Australian motor vehicle in 1912, which they undertook in a 1910 single cylinder 10 horsepower brush taking 28 days with virtually no roads, driving from dawn to dusk.
